Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the suspension of all flights utilizing Iranian airspace following Iran’s extensive missile attack on Israel. The national carrier has adjusted its flight routes until further notice as it monitors the situation.
A PIA spokesperson stated that the airline has directed its pilots and flight operations teams to steer clear of Iranian airspace for safety reasons. Affected routes, including those to the UAE, Bahrain, Doha, and Saudi Arabia—which typically use the Southern Corridor—are being modified. Additionally, flights to Canada and Turkey, usually operating through the Northern Corridor, have also been rerouted.
“The Iranian airspace will remain off-limits until the situation is clarified,” the spokesperson emphasized, highlighting the need for caution amid the ongoing conflict.
This decision comes in light of Iran’s recent missile strikes, during which hundreds of ballistic missiles were reportedly aimed at Israeli targets. Foreign media outlets have suggested that approximately 400 missiles were launched, although Israeli officials have confirmed at least 102 missiles were fired.
The sudden escalation has heightened concerns over the safety of commercial air routes across the region, prompting PIA’s precautionary measures.
