Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has reportedly agreed to implement significant changes within the party in an effort to maintain unity. According to insiders, Khan has accepted a proposal to remove Barrister Gohar as the party chairman. Veteran PTI leader and former National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser, is considered the top candidate to succeed Gohar. Sources claim that Qaiser has already been informed of the decision.
This step is seen as a strategic move aimed at resolving internal conflicts and fostering cohesion within the party. On Thursday, Qaiser attempted to visit Khan at Adiala Jail, where the former prime minister is currently incarcerated. However, despite a lengthy wait, the anticipated meeting did not take place, delaying the formal announcement of Qaiser’s appointment.
The decision to replace Gohar follows a series of other high-profile changes in PTI leadership. Recently, Sheikh Waqas Akram was appointed Secretary Information, succeeding Raoof Hassan. Earlier, Salman Akram Raja took over as Secretary General, replacing Omar Ayub Khan.
These shifts within the PTI leadership come in the wake of Imran Khan stepping down as the party’s chairman. Khan was disqualified from holding public office after being convicted in the Toshakhana case, forcing him to relinquish the position he had held since the party’s founding. The leadership transitions are seen as part of a broader effort to stabilize the party amid internal challenges and Khan’s legal troubles.
