“Islamabad Police Take Action for Violating Section 144
Former Jamaat-e-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmed and his wife were among ten individuals arrested by police during a pro-Palestine protest in Islamabad on Sunday.
“We only came out to support Hassan Nasrallah, Palestine, and Lebanon, and to voice our opposition to Israel. This government cannot tolerate anti-Israel slogans,” Ahmed stated in a video from inside a police van with other arrested protesters.
His comments come after Hezbollah confirmed the death of its leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, pledging to continue their fight against Israel. The Israeli military reported that Nasrallah was killed in a “targeted strike” on the group’s underground headquarters in Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah-controlled suburb of Beirut.
According to medical and security sources, Nasrallah’s body, recovered from the site, showed no direct wounds, indicating that blunt trauma from the blast was the likely cause of death.
The arrests took place outside the Press Club, where the federal government has banned gatherings, marches, and rallies. The police enforced Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits such assemblies.
Ahmed claimed they were holding a “peaceful protest” for Palestine when police charged at them with batons, resulting in violence that also affected women and children.
Notably, Ahmed and his wife were previously arrested during a pro-Palestine demonstration in the capital last month for attempting to protest at D-Chowk.”
