The Sindh High Court has issued a bailable warrant for the arrest of the federal interior secretary due to non-compliance with court orders.
This decision comes after the secretary failed to remove the names of Amina Jatoi and her two children from the Exit Control List (ECL), as mandated by the court.
Following the issuance of the warrant, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Islamabad has been instructed to ensure its execution. The court emphasized the importance of adhering to its directives, stating that the interior secretary’s failure to act has led to this legal action.
In addition to the arrest warrant, the court has directed the interior secretary to appear before it and submit a surety bond by October 4. This requirement highlights the court’s commitment to ensuring accountability among government officials.
The Islamabad police have officially received the warrant and are expected to act promptly to enforce the court’s instructions. This situation underscores the judiciary’s authority in compelling compliance from government officials and ensuring that individuals’ rights are protected, particularly regarding travel restrictions.
The case has drawn attention to the processes surrounding the ECL, which restricts individuals from leaving the country.
The court’s actions reflect its role in safeguarding civil liberties and enforcing compliance with judicial decisions. As the deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the interior secretary’s response and the Islamabad police’s execution of the warrant.
