Rain Predicted in Northern Parts of the Country from September 26

Rain

RAWALPINDI: A significant spell of rain accompanied by strong winds is anticipated in the northern regions of the country starting September 26, continuing until October 1.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that moist air currents from the Bay of Bengal will begin to infiltrate the upper parts of the country by September 25, with a westerly wave expected to approach on September 26.

These weather systems are projected to bring a mix of rain, wind, and thundershowers, including isolated heavy downpours, to various areas such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad from the evening or night of September 26 until October 1.

Other regions, including Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, and Bhakkar, will experience similar weather conditions from the night of September 27 through October 1.

In Azad Kashmir, rain and thundershowers are expected to affect areas like Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from September 26 to October 2.

Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan is also forecasted to receive rain and thunderstorms in regions such as Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar during the same period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to see rain and thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls affecting areas like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, and Kohat from the evening or night of September 26 to October 1.

Rainfall may also occur in Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan from September 27 to October 1, although there may be occasional breaks.

In contrast, Balochistan and most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and dry. However, isolated areas in Sindh, such as Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, and Umerkot, might experience some rain and thunderstorms between September 26 and 28.

Authorities have issued advisories regarding the potential for heavy rains to increase water flow in local nullahs and streams, particularly in regions like Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Nowshera, Swabi, and the Islamabad/Rawalpindi area, as well as parts of northeast Punjab.

Urban flooding is a concern for low-lying areas in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Sialkot during this wet spell.

There is also a risk of landslides affecting roads in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Windstorms and lightning could potentially damage weak structures, including mud houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Farmers are advised to manage their activities accordingly, and travelers and tourists are encouraged to exercise caution and adjust their plans to avoid any unfortunate incidents during this period of anticipated wet weather.
