Azma Zahid Bokhari fake video case: LHC summons FIA Director General for next hearing

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Alia Neelam has summoned the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency in connection with a petition regarding a fake video involving Azma Zahid Bokhari.

During the proceedings, Justice Neelam expressed her dissatisfaction with the current operations of the FIA, stating that a compromised system is ineffective. She requested a comprehensive report from the FIA for the next hearing, scheduled for September 23.

The court also addressed a separate application from Falak Javed’s father, instructing him to formally document his concerns alongside his family’s plea. Justice Neelam acknowledged the issues raised by Falak’s mother’s lawyer about their treatment following multiple police raids on their home.

Deputy Attorney General Asad Bajwa presented the FIA’s report, but the court raised several objections regarding its content. Chief Justice Neelam questioned the qualifications of FIA personnel, stating, “Your report indicates that your staff are not fit for these positions.”

The hearing also examined the case of Haider Ali, who is currently in custody. The federal government’s lawyer informed the court that Haider’s mobile phone had been sent for forensic analysis.

Justice Neelam questioned the need for a transit remand when Haider was not in FIA custody, stating, “A transit remand is requested only when the accused is in your custody.”

The court noted that Haider Ali had received interim bail from the Sessions Court of Lahore after his arrest by Matta Police. Chief Justice Neelam expressed concern over how bail was granted while he remained listed in the FIA’s FIR, asking, “How could the magistrate grant bail when he is in your FIR?”

The federal lawyer mentioned a lack of cooperation from KP Police, complicating the investigation. Justice Neelam expressed frustration, stating, “Your strength is moving here in Punjab, arresting whoever you choose.”

The hearing was adjourned until September 23, with further action pending regarding the FIA’s report.
