LHC Orders Halt on Registration for Schools Lacking Bus Policy

The Lahore High Court has directed the Schools Education Department to halt the renewal of registration for schools that have not implemented a comprehensive bus policy.

This decision was part of the court’s written ruling following the latest hearing of a case related to smog and environmental safety.

The court’s order underscores its increasing concern over the failure of many schools to adhere to established transportation safety regulations.

Despite previous warnings, numerous institutions have yet to comply with the mandated bus policies, prompting this decisive action.

In addition to addressing the bus policy issue, the court has also initiated an inquiry into the renovation work of underpasses along Canal Road. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been assigned the task of appointing an officer to investigate allegations of the use of substandard materials during the construction process. The court has required a detailed report on this matter to be submitted at the next hearing.

Justice Shahid Karim, who oversaw the proceedings, also expressed concern about the lack of enforcement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kasur tanneries association and the district administration.

The deputy commissioner of Kasur was criticized for not upholding the terms of the MoU. The court has instructed the environment department to take immediate action against any violations of the agreement.

This ruling follows petitions from citizens, including Haroon Farooq, aimed at addressing broader environmental and public safety issues in the region. The court’s actions reflect a commitment to improving regulatory compliance and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
