New airlines are seeking approval from CAA to begin operations in Pakistan

KARACHI: Several new airlines are eyeing the launch of operations in various Pakistani cities, according to a report on Friday, which cites information from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Among the new contenders are local airlines such as Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air, all of which have approached the CAA for the necessary licenses and permits to start their operations.

Additionally, Air Indus has sought the CAA’s approval to resume its flight services.

Other airlines, including Q Aviation and Liberty Air, have also submitted applications to the CAA for operating licenses, signaling a growing interest in the Pakistani aviation market.

CAA officials have highlighted that the influx of these license applications is a positive development for the country’s economy. The introduction of these new airlines is expected to enhance travel options for passengers, boost foreign exchange earnings within the aviation sector, and create new job opportunities.

Currently, Pakistan’s aviation sector includes three private airlines: Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial. These companies are already operational and contributing to the industry. The addition of new players is anticipated to further diversify the market and improve service quality.

In related news, the CAA released a six-month performance report in May, which evaluated the operational efficiency of domestic airlines, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The report, covering the period from July to December 2023, placed PIA in fourth position in terms of its departure and arrival ratio, which stood at 89.32 percent. This indicates that while PIA has made significant strides, there remains potential for further improvement in its operational efficiency.

Overall, the entry of new airlines and the ongoing performance evaluations are expected to contribute positively to the growth and competitiveness of Pakistan’s aviation industry, ultimately benefiting both passengers and the economy.
