From Cricket to Politics: Ravindra Jadeja Joins BJP

Ravindra Jadeja

Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has recently entered the political arena by joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to reports from India.

This move follows in the footsteps of his wife, Rivaba Jadeja, who is already an established member of the BJP. Rivaba, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Jamnagar, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the development, sharing photos of both her and Ravindra’s new BJP membership cards.

Rivaba Jadeja had joined the BJP in 2019 and was successfully elected to the Jamnagar assembly seat in 2022. She won decisively, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Karshanbhai Karmur by a substantial margin of over 50,000 votes.

The BJP’s membership drive, known as the ‘Sadasyata Abhiyan,’ began on September 2, starting with the renewal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s membership. The Jadejas’ latest move aligns them closely with Modi’s political vision and the BJP’s objectives.

Ravindra Jadeja, 35, had recently announced his retirement from T20 internationals. This decision came shortly after India’s historic T20 World Cup victory against South Africa in June 2024.

Jadeja made the announcement via his official Instagram account, where he expressed his gratitude and pride in his cricketing career.

He shared a picture of himself holding the T20 World Cup trophy, stating, “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support.”

Over the course of his career, Jadeja has represented India in 74 T20 International matches since his debut in 2009. In these matches, he scored 515 runs with a strike rate of 127.16 and took 54 wickets at an average of 29.85.

His retirement from T20Is marks the end of a significant chapter in his cricketing career, as he now shifts focus towards his new role in politics with the BJP.
