DG ISPR to Discuss Security and Other Issues in Today’s Press Conference

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:15 p.m. today.

During the briefing, Lt Gen Chaudhry will address key issues concerning the country’s internal security, anti-terrorism efforts, and other pertinent matters. The press conference comes in the wake of a recent surge in terrorist attacks, which have resulted in numerous casualties among civilians, security forces, and law enforcement agencies.

In the past month, Balochistan has experienced a series of devastating attacks, with over 50 deaths reported, including 14 security personnel, due to strikes by militants linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

Data from the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) indicates a significant increase in violent incidents, with attacks rising from 38 in July to 59 in August. This includes 29 attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 28 in Balochistan, and two in Punjab.

Earlier this week, the army’s leadership, during the Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the gains made against terrorism. The military’s spokesperson elaborated on ongoing anti-terror efforts and intelligence-based operations aimed at curbing the threat.

Lt Gen Chaudhry also addressed the government’s classification of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” emphasizing that the militant group is not aligned with Islam. He reiterated the military’s focus on the merged districts of KP and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism until all militants are defeated.

Regarding Baloch uprisings, he described the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and its leadership as proxies for terrorists and criminal elements, working to discredit law enforcement agencies and sabotage development projects in Balochistan. He accused these groups of using foreign support to incite unrest and challenge the government’s authority.

Commenting on the May 9 riots, which involved attacks on military installations following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan, Gen Chaudhry reaffirmed the army’s unwavering stance on the issue. He also noted the significant investment in lobbying and propaganda efforts aimed at fostering political instability and creating a narrative of chaos.
