Hezbollah reports launching intense rocket barrages at Israeli positions

BEIRUT: On Tuesday, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, claimed responsibility for firing multiple rocket salvos at Israeli military positions in the Golan Heights.

This action was described as a retaliation for Israeli strikes on eastern Lebanon the previous day. Hezbollah’s attack targeted two Israeli positions in the Golan Heights, a region that Israel has occupied since the 1967 Six-Day War.

According to Hezbollah sources, the Israeli airstrikes had specifically targeted weapons depots in the Bekaa Valley, located in eastern Lebanon.

The Israeli military confirmed that around 55 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory. They reported that some of these projectiles were intercepted by their defense systems, while the remainder landed in open areas.

No casualties were reported from the rocket fire, although some of the rockets ignited fires. In response, the Israeli forces hit one of the launch sites used by Hezbollah.

This escalation follows an Israeli attack on Monday that targeted weapons storage facilities deep within eastern Lebanon, which was a reaction to a Hezbollah attack that killed an Israeli soldier in northern Israel.

Over the past ten months, cross-border violence between Hezbollah and Israeli forces has resulted in significant casualties: 585 people have been killed in Lebanon, including Hezbollah fighters and at least 128 civilians, while 23 Israeli soldiers and 26 civilians have died on the Israeli side.

Tensions have heightened further since Hezbollah and Iran pledged retaliation after an Israeli airstrike in Beirut last month killed a prominent Hezbollah commander, Fuad Shukr.

This incident came shortly before an attack in Tehran, attributed to Israel, which killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
