KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that no spectators will be allowed at Karachi’s National Stadium during the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh due to ongoing renovations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PCB acknowledged the crucial role of fans in cricket, highlighting their importance in motivating and inspiring players. However, after careful consideration, the board decided that the safest option is to proceed with the match behind closed doors.
The second Test is scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 3 in Karachi. The decision to restrict access is driven by the venue’s current upgradation work, which is being carried out in preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Consequently, ticket sales for the match have been suspended, and all fans who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund. The refunds will be automatically processed and credited to their accounts.
The PCB reassured the public that the ongoing renovations are part of a larger initiative to enhance the stadium’s facilities, aiming to make it more accommodating and fan-friendly for future events.
The improvements are designed to ensure that the National Stadium is fully prepared to host the Champions Trophy, the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event to be held in Pakistan since 1996.
In the meantime, the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will take place in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25. Bangladesh men’s cricket team arrived in Lahore from Dhaka on Tuesday and will conduct training sessions at Gaddafi Stadium from August 14 to 16, as per the updated schedule from the PCB.
