KARACHI: Azra Farooq, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s women’s volleyball, has been named the Most Valuable Player at the Kings Cup Volleyball tournament held in the Maldives.
Playing for the MK Club, Azra’s exceptional performance was a highlight of the tournament. She played a crucial role in securing victories for her team in all four matches and was named the best player in each of those games, leading her team to win the tournament title.
Throughout the event, Azra excelled individually, earning six awards: four Player of the Match accolades, the MVP award, and a Top 6 Player award. These accolades not only celebrate Azra’s individual talent but also represent a significant achievement for Pakistani women’s volleyball, showcasing their potential on the international stage.
This tournament marked Azra’s second stint with a volleyball club in the Maldives. Previously, she and her teammate Muqaddas Bukhari made history by becoming the first Pakistani women to be signed by a volleyball club outside of Pakistan. They were recruited by the Al-Fawz club for the MZC Ladies’ Cup, setting a precedent for future Pakistani athletes.
