US Bracing for Potential Iranian Attack in Middle East as Early as This Week

The US is on high alert for potential attacks by Iran or its proxies in the Middle East, with concerns that such actions could occur as soon as this week. This heightened state of readiness follows the recent assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran, which has raised fears of Iranian retaliation.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby confirmed that the US has significantly increased its military presence in the region. This move aligns with Israel’s apprehensions about the timing of a possible attack, underscoring the need for preparedness against what Kirby described as “significant” threats.

In response to the rising tensions, the Pentagon has deployed a guided missile submarine and is accelerating the deployment of the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to the Middle East.

However, since the carrier strike group is currently stationed in the South China Sea, it will take over a week to arrive in the region.

The mounting geopolitical uncertainties have had a notable impact on global markets, with oil prices spiking by 3% on Monday. This increase marks the fifth consecutive day of rising prices, driven by fears of a potential regional conflict that could disrupt oil supplies worldwide.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue their operations near Khan Younis in Gaza.

International efforts are ongoing to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza and avert a broader regional conflict that could involve Iran and its proxies.
