Pakistan Issues Special Stamp to Honor Olympic Hero Arshad Nadeem

On Saturday, the Government of Pakistan released a commemorative stamp to mark Independence Day and honor Arshad Nadeem’s historic achievement at the Paris Olympics.

The special stamp, titled “Determination and Stability,” celebrates Nadeem’s outstanding contribution to the nation and underscores the ongoing quest for Pakistan’s independence. The design features a dynamic image of Nadeem mid-throw during the men’s javelin event, set against a dark green backdrop, with the Minaret of Pakistan symbolizing the country’s historical significance.

Arshad Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan’s first individual gold medal at the Olympics, surpassing the reigning champion, Neeraj Chopra, with a throw of 92.97 meters. This throw not only earned him the gold but also set a new Olympic record, surpassing the previous mark by over 2.5 meters.

Before Nadeem’s victory, Pakistan had not won an individual gold medal at the Olympics. The country’s previous gold medals were achieved in 1960, 1968, and 1984, with individual medals coming from wrestling in 1960 and boxing in 1988. Pakistan had not won any Olympic medals since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

In a statement, Nadeem expressed his joy, saying, “It was my day. I believe I could have thrown even farther.” The 27-year-old athlete is scheduled to return to Pakistan via Istanbul, with his arrival in Lahore expected on Sunday night.
