Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso, 20, has been expelled from the athlete village at the Paris Olympics after creating an “inappropriate” environment, according to Paraguayan Olympic authorities.
Alonso, who unexpectedly announced her retirement from swimming shortly after failing to qualify for the 100m semi-finals last week, was suspended from the village. However, the specifics of her “inappropriate behavior” have not been publicly disclosed.
In a brief statement, Larissa Schaerer, a former Paraguayan tennis Olympian, said, “Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We appreciate her cooperation, as it was her decision not to spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”
Alonso has responded by rejecting the “lies” and “false information” surrounding her removal, while the Paraguayan Olympic Committee has remained silent on the details of the incident.
The young swimmer’s unexpected departure has cast a shadow over Paraguay’s Olympic campaign, leaving the team to deal with the repercussions of this controversial situation involving one of their most promising athletes.
Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem qualifies for final
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem advanced to the finals of the Paris Olympics Javelin Throw event on Tuesday.
In the qualification round, Nadeem achieved a remarkable throw that surpassed the 84-meter minimum qualifying mark, securing his place in the final.
Nadeem’s first attempt reached an impressive distance of 86.59 meters, instantly clinching his spot in the finals and highlighting his exceptional skill.
This achievement marks Nadeem’s second consecutive Olympic final, following his strong fifth-place finish in Tokyo.
The medal round of the Javelin Throw will take place on August 8.
