In Mohandri, Naran, recent flooding has caused significant damage, with the Kunhar River forming a lake and sweeping away eight more shops.
The local administration has managed to evacuate stranded tourists in Naran, transporting them via Babusar Top. For the fourth consecutive day, the route between Balakot and Kaghan Valley remains blocked.
According to the Secretary of Information for the Mohandri Traders Association, the Munawar Nullah and Kunhar River have destroyed 16 shops in Mohandri Bazaar and inundated 40 others. This has led to severe financial losses for the local traders.
The traders’ association has warned that without prompt relief efforts, Mohandri Bazaar may suffer irreparable damage.
On Friday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Secretary, along with other officials, visited the flood-stricken Mohandri area to assess the damage, particularly to the Mohandri Bridge Bazaar. He announced that the administration is monitoring the situation closely and has arranged for heavy machinery and bridge materials to be transported via Babusar Top. The goal is to complete the bridge repairs within the next 6-7 days.
To address concerns about food and fuel shortages, the chief secretary noted that typically, stocks for 8-10 days are maintained. Oil tankers are being sent via Babusar Top to replenish fuel supplies, expected to arrive in Naran by the following day.
The Chief Secretary confirmed that tourists have been safely evacuated and that the local hotel association is offering accommodations for those wishing to stay. He also presented emergency aid checks of Rs1 million each to the families of a mother and child who were swept away by the Munawar Nullah, offering condolences and prayers.
The chief secretary directed all department heads to work around the clock to ease the suffering of affected residents and emphasized that any negligence will not be tolerated.
