The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in Islamabad has recently announced revised school timings for the city’s educational institutions, which will take effect starting August 5.
This new schedule marks the end of an extended summer break and aims to accommodate the needs of students and staff as the new academic term begins.
Due to severe heat and humidity, the federal government had previously extended the summer vacation in Islamabad’s schools and colleges until August 4.
With the new school timings coming into play from August 5, the FDE has outlined specific schedules for different types of educational institutions.
For single-shift schools, classes will run from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the schedule will be adjusted to 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. These changes are intended to help manage the high temperatures during the peak hours of the day.
Schools operating on a morning and evening shift will follow a different timetable. The morning shift will begin at 7:30 am and end at 1:30 pm from Monday to Thursday, with an earlier finish time of 7:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.
For the evening shift, classes will be held from 2 pm to 7 pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 2:30 pm to 7 pm on Fridays. Notably, there will be no break during the evening shift.
Pre-I (Montessori/Prep) classes will have their own set of timings, running from 8 am to 12 pm, Monday through Friday.
The FDE has also set specific timings for Ex-F.G. Colleges, with classes scheduled from 8:30 am to 2 pm and then from 4 pm to 7 pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.
These new timings have been established to ensure that students and staff can manage their school activities more effectively in response to the ongoing weather conditions.
In addition to these changes, provincial governments in Sindh and Balochistan have also announced extensions to their summer breaks, with schools in these provinces expected to reopen on August 15.
Students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab are also awaiting similar announcements regarding the extension of their summer vacations, but no official decision has been communicated yet.
