ISLAMABAD: In a recent disclosure, news reported that 18 Independent Power Producers agreements were signed during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf administration.
Hanif Abbasi, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), revealed this information during an interview on the news program โSawaal Yeh Hai.โ Abbasi criticized the PTI government for these agreements, arguing that IPPs not producing electricity should not be entitled to payments.
He proposed that the government should renegotiate contracts with local IPPs, who he believes have already made substantial profits. Abbasi suggested that, given Pakistanโs current economic crisis, the authorities should consider terminating these contracts.
Abbasi praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his diligent efforts to address the nation’s issues. He dismissed claims that ministers and members of the National Assembly receive free electricity as unfounded, emphasizing that the Prime Minister funds his own trips and refuting allegations of misusing public funds.
He reminded viewers that, as per the constitution, their government could be removed through a no-confidence vote, similar to the PTI administrationโs ousting. Abbasi criticized PTI supporters, accusing them of reversing their stance on certain figures and seeking their favor after having previously opposed them.
He also condemned PTI for apologizing for actions taken on May 9 and for protests outside the IMF office. Abbasi called for apologies regarding allegations of receiving funds from foreign countries like Israel and India.
Drawing a parallel with the Capitol Hill riot in the US, Abbasi suggested that those responsible for the May 9 incidents in Pakistan should face severe consequences to deter future occurrences. He also challenged PTIโs founder to publicly denounce the Israeli army chief if there is no external influence involved, referencing Rauf Hasanโs admission of connections with India.
