Met Office Forecasts Rain, Wind, and Thunderstorms Across Pakistan from July 28 to 31

The Met Office has forecasted rain, wind, and thundershowers from July 28 to 31, with intermittent breaks across various regions of Pakistan.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents are expected to move in from the Arabian Sea, reaching the northern parts by the night of July 27 and then spreading to central and southern regions from July 29.

Under this weather system:

  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur will experience rain, wind, and thundershowers with occasional heavy falls from Saturday through Wednesday.
  • Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali will see similar weather from Sunday to Wednesday.
  • Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lohdran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah are expected to receive rainfall from July 29 to 31.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan will experience rain from July 28 to 31 with occasional breaks.

In Balochistan, predominantly hot and humid conditions are expected, but rain is anticipated in Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbella, Awaran, Panjgur, Ketch, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Shirani, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad, and Jaffarabad from Monday to Wednesday.

Sindh will experience mainly hot and very humid weather, with rain expected in Mithi, Sanghar, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jaccoabad, and Dadu on July 29 and 30, with occasional gaps.

Gilgit-Baltistan will see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with rainfall anticipated in Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit city, Ghanche, and Shigar on July 28 and 29.

The PMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding in streams and nullahs in areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kurrum, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, Hill torrents of DG Khan, and Kashmir from Sunday to Tuesday.

Urban flooding may affect low-lying areas in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Peshawar during this period. Landslides could disrupt roads in vulnerable hilly regions of KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and GB.

Heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning may impact daily activities, potentially damaging weak structures, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Farmers are advised to plan their activities according to the weather forecast, and travelers and tourists should exercise caution, adjusting their plans to the prevailing weather conditions to avoid any adverse situations.
