FAISALABAD: A disturbing video of a madrassa teacher violently beating a student has sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The incident occurred in the Thikriwala area of Faisalabad, and the police have since filed a first information report (FIR) based on a complaint from the student’s father, Rashid.
The FIR was registered under Sections 328A (exposure and abandonment of a child under twelve years by a person responsible for their care) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
According to the complaint, the teacher, Mohammad Rizwan, who serves as a cleric at Jamia Ghousia Rizvia, began beating the student on July 24, shortly after Zuhr prayers, for reasons that remain unclear.
Two other students present at the scene, Mohammad Raza and Munawwar, intervened and pleaded with Rizwan to stop the assault, which eventually led him to cease the violence. The father reported that when he confronted Rizwan about the incident, the teacher responded with anger and verbal abuse.
The father, deeply distressed by the incident and Rizwan’s reaction, approached the police on July 25 to file the complaint. The video of the brutal incident has since gone viral, adding pressure on the authorities to address the issue. The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about corporal punishment in educational institutions and has prompted calls for stricter regulations and oversight to prevent such abuses in the future.
