Thirteen mountaineers, mostly foreigners accompanied by two Pakistani nationals, successfully scaled Gasherbrum-II (8032 meters) on a Sunday morning.
Known as K-4 and nestled in the formidable Karakoram Range, the climbers were divided into two expedition teams: Seven Summits Treks and Karakoram Summit. Eleven members of Seven Summits Treks reached the summit during their ascent.
In a statement, Seven Summits Treks celebrated the achievement: “We are delighted to announce the successful ascent of Gasherbrum-II (8034m) by our outstanding Seven Summits Treks team members and Sherpas on Sunday! Our team led the way, fixing ropes to ensure safe passage to the summit.” The statement praised the climbers for their teamwork, perseverance, and strength in challenging conditions.
The international team included climbers from Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, and Nepal, alongside Pakistani participants. They began their ascent on Saturday evening despite uncertain weather, managing to reach the peak by Sunday morning.
In contrast, the climbing season for Nanga Parbat has concluded, with various mountaineers, including Pakistani national Jousaf Khawaja, his daughter Selena, and skiers Anny Tybor from Poland and Tom Lafaille from France, abandoning their attempts due to deteriorating weather conditions.
Overall, Gasherbrum-II represents a significant achievement in the challenging realm of high-altitude mountaineering. The successful summit by the Seven Summits Treks team underscores the dedication and skill required to conquer such formidable peaks in the Karakoram Range, known for its extreme and unpredictable weather conditions.
