BAJAUR: Anguished relatives of a 14-year-old boy staged a protest at the district headquarters hospital in Khar, alleging negligence by doctors and medical staff that they claim led to his death. The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, drew scores of villagers to join the demonstration.
The protesters, accompanied by villagers, placed the deceased boy’s body at the main gate of the hospital. They accused doctors and medical personnel at the hospital of failing to provide adequate treatment to Amjid Khan, who had been bitten by a stray dog weeks earlier in the Laghari area of Mamund tehsil.
According to the protesters, despite bringing Amjid Khan to the hospital for treatment immediately after the dog bite, the emergency ward discharged him without administering the necessary anti-rabies vaccine. They claimed that the vaccine was not available in the hospital’s pharmacy at the time.
A week later, due to a deterioration in his health, the boy was readmitted to the hospital but tragically passed away without receiving appropriate medical attention.
The protest concluded only after assurances from the hospital’s medical superintendent and local public representatives to form an official inquiry committee. This committee is tasked with investigating the alleged medical negligence and is expected to submit a report within one week.
In addition to the healthcare issue, residents of several hilly villages in Salarzai tehsil voiced concerns about a major link road damaged by recent heavy rains. Led by Abdul Qadar Khan, the residents highlighted that the road serves as a vital connection among numerous villages and small towns in the region.
They noted that despite initial efforts by local residents to initiate repairs on a self-help basis, proper restoration of the road would require heavy machinery, specifically an excavator.
They urged the provincial government and district administration to intervene promptly and arrange for the necessary equipment to ensure durable repairs on this crucial link road connecting Wadi Gram, Shah Sary, Saroo Wanoo, Damano, and other populated areas.
