On Saturday, Pakistan announced its contingent for the upcoming Olympic Games, consisting of only seven athletes. The 18-member team, including 11 officials, is set to travel to Paris for the Games, which commence on July 26.
Among the athletes, javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem stands out as Pakistan’s primary medal hopeful. He is joined by shooters Ghulam Mustafa Bashir (25m Rapid Fire Pistol), Gulfam Joseph (10m Air Pistol, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team), and Kishmala Talat (10m Air Pistol, 25m Pistol, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team), who all qualified for their respective events.
Additionally, Faiqa Riaz (100m race), Mohammad Ahmed Durrani (200m Freestyle), and Jahanara Nabi (200m Freestyle) have secured their spots through wildcard entries, known as Universality Places.
Arshad and Jahanara have been selected as flagbearers for the national contingent during the opening ceremony.
The 11 officials include the chef de mission, deputy chef de mission, and an admin officer, among others. Notable officials are Dr. Syed Meesaq Hussain Rizvi (chief medical officer), Kashif Jameel (NOC Olympic Attaché), and Rizwan Ahmed (welfare officer), along with coaches and managers for the athletes.
Pakistan did not qualify for other disciplines such as hockey, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, and volleyball.
Departures to Paris are scheduled between July 19 and July 24, with return arrangements after the conclusion of the respective events.
