Following the introduction of ultrasound and CT scan machines, the Punjab government has opted to contract out the management of operation theatres in public hospitals to private firms. This move is intended to enhance the efficiency and quality of surgical services throughout the province.
The Punjab government has notified hospital administrations about this new initiative. Under the plan, private medical companies will take charge of operating theatres in these hospitals.
The contract will encompass the installation and oversight of advanced surgical equipment, including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, endoscopy, and endo-urology devices.
Private firms will be responsible for equipping operation theatres with cutting-edge machinery to modernize surgical facilities. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of public hospitals, granting patients access to advanced medical procedures.
To initiate this initiative, the Punjab Health Department has solicited proposals from private firms. Payment to these firms will be tied to the number of surgeries conducted, establishing a performance-based compensation structure aimed at encouraging efficiency and high standards of care in operation theatres.
The Health Department has requested comprehensive data from hospital administrations, including patient volumes, current equipment inventories, and machinery statuses. This information will be crucial for private firms to assess requirements and devise appropriate upgrade and management plans.
