Social Media is Like a Desi Mom, Says Zhalay Sarhadi

Zhalay Sarhadi

The controversy over a promotional campaign for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz led Pakistani actress Zhalay Sarhadi to draw a humorous yet poignant comparison between social media and a strict desi mom.

The campaign, which has been active for several days, aims to highlight Maryam Nawaz’s accomplishments.

It features several social media influencers and well-known Pakistani celebrities, including singer Aima Baig, and actresses Urwa Hocane, Sanam Saeed, Saba Qamar, and Zhalay Sarhadi.

Despite its intent to showcase achievements, the campaign has faced significant backlash from the public, sparking outrage and calls for a boycott of the participating artists.

Reacting to the criticism, Zhalay Sarhadi took to her Instagram account to share her thoughts with a touch of humor. She posted a remark that compared social media users to strict “desi moms.”

She wrote, “Social media is just like a desi mom. After a whole day of work, if you leave a glass on the table, you’ll hear, ‘Useless! You don’t do anything.'”

Sarhadi’s analogy highlighted how social media can be unforgiving, much like a desi mother who points out small errors despite the effort put in throughout the day.

She emphasized that people on social media often pass judgment harshly based on one mistake, overshadowing the overall contributions and efforts of an individual.

By comparing social media users to desi moms, Sarhadi underscored the tendency of netizens to focus on minor missteps rather than acknowledging the bigger picture.

Her post resonated with many, shedding light on the harsh scrutiny public figures face in the digital age.

The actress’s witty comment also provided a moment of levity amidst the ongoing controversy, offering a relatable perspective on the often critical nature of social media.

Sarhadi’s response not only defended the artists involved in the campaign but also invited a broader reflection on how quickly and harshly people judge others online.

Her comparison serves as a reminder of the need for more balanced and fair evaluations of individuals’ efforts and achievements in the public sphere.
