Sindh introduced Pakistan’s inaugural electric vehicle taxi service

The Sindh government has unveiled plans to launch Pakistan’s inaugural electric vehicle taxi service, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing public transportation in the region.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the introduction of 200 electric taxis in Karachi, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility. Notably, 50 of these EVs will operate under the banner of “Pink EV Taxis,” exclusively catering to women passengers.

“The introduction of these EV taxis is designed to improve public transport accessibility while providing a secure travel option for female commuters,” Minister Memon affirmed. He underscored the government’s commitment to recruiting female drivers for the Pink EV Taxis, prioritizing safety and affordability.

This initiative aligns with Sindh’s broader efforts to promote environmentally-friendly transportation solutions and echoes federal initiatives encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide. Experts anticipate that the introduction of EV taxis will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution in Karachi, a city grappling with severe environmental challenges.

The Pink EV Taxis specifically aim to address safety concerns and accessibility issues for women using public transportation in Karachi. The government’s rollout plan for the EV taxi service, including the deployment schedule for the Pink EV Taxis, is forthcoming. Minister Memon assured that necessary infrastructure and regulatory measures are being swiftly implemented to ensure the initiative’s seamless execution.

In conclusion, the launch of Pakistan’s first EV taxi service by the Sindh government marks a significant milestone towards sustainable urban mobility, with a focus on enhancing safety and accessibility for all commuters, particularly women.
