Punjab govt intensifies efforts to eradicate polio

The Punjab government plans to enhance its efforts in eradicating polio by setting up specialized vaccination counters at entry and exit points across the province.

At a meeting of the provincial task group on polio eradication, attended by provincial ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir, Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and representatives from other ministries, this decision was finalized.

Khawaja Salman Rafique, addressing the participants, announced that all provincial ministers would actively participate alongside polio teams in the upcoming campaign. He emphasized the deployment of diverse strategies in every district to combat the disease and directed health officials and deputy commissioners to identify and resolve any obstacles hindering the achievement of their goals.

It was agreed during the meeting that polio vaccination counters would be established at all entry and exit points of Punjab. Officials pledged to utilize all available resources to ensure the elimination of polio and other diseases from the province.

In the pursuit of complete polio eradication, Khawaja Imran Nazir indicated that a health emergency could potentially be declared, citing population migration as a significant factor in the spread of the disease.

However, he assured that all children passing through entry and exit points would receive polio vaccination drops.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that action would be taken against any officials found displaying negligence during the polio eradication efforts.
