PIA and other airlines announced an increase in Federal Excise Duty on flights

In Karachi, Pakistan International Airlines and all other airlines operating in Pakistan have issued notifications regarding an increase in the Federal Excise Duty applied to their international flight tickets.

This adjustment was implemented following the federal government’s decision to raise FED rates in the 2024-25 budget.

According to the notifications, the FED on economy and economy plus tickets has surged by 150 percent. Previously, passengers paying Rs5,000 in FED for economy tickets will now be charged Rs12,500.

Similarly, the duty for travelers in Club Class heading to the USA has increased from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000.

Moreover, the FED on tickets for flights to destinations in Africa and the Middle East has been raised from Rs75,000 to Rs105,000. For flights to European cities, the FED has been hiked from Rs150,000 to Rs210,000. Likewise, tickets for flights to Australia, New Zealand, and Far Eastern countries now carry a 40 percent higher FED, amounting to Rs210,000.

In a separate announcement earlier, PIA had reduced Umrah fares for pilgrims traveling from various Pakistani cities to Madina and Jeddah. The revised fares are as follows:

  • Karachi to Madina: PKR 76,000 (plus tax) for a round-trip ticket
  • Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and Sialkot to Madina: PKR 86,000 (plus tax) for a round-trip ticket
