ICC Confirms Pakistan’s Qualification for T20 World Cup 2026

T20 World Cup 2026

The line-up for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has been finalized following the conclusion of the recent T20 World Cup. This next edition will feature a total of 20 teams, organized into four groups of five teams each.

India and Sri Lanka, as hosts, have already secured their spots in the tournament. The remaining 10 spots were determined through a combination of the Super Eight qualifiers from the 2024 tournament and the T20I team rankings.

Teams like Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and the United States emerged as qualifiers based on their performances and rankings.

Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, secured their place in the 2026 T20 World Cup by virtue of their T20I ranking, which placed them 7th globally.

They will be joined by New Zealand (ranked 6th) and Ireland (ranked 11th) in the prestigious tournament.

The final eight spots for the 2026 World Cup will be determined through regional qualifiers. Each region has specific qualification slots allocated: Africa, Asia, and Europe will have two spots each, while the Americas and East-Asia Pacific regions will have one spot each.

Reflecting on the recent T20 World Cup, India clinched the 2024 trophy by defeating South Africa in a closely contested final, winning by seven runs.

This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup title, having previously triumphed in 2007 by defeating Pakistan in the inaugural edition.

Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s stellar performance have solidified their status alongside England and the West Indies as two-time champions of the T20 World Cup.

The upcoming 2026 edition promises to be a thrilling showcase of international cricket talent, set against the backdrop of passionate fan support in India and Sri Lanka.
