Establishment Willing to Restrict Role if Pakistan Moves on ‘Right Tracks: Rana Sanaullah

On Monday, Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister’s adviser on political and public affairs, emphasized that the current leadership of the establishment is prepared to limit its role if Pakistan progresses economically and politically. Sanaullah asserted that the incumbent establishment harbors no personal agenda and is focused solely on ensuring stability and progress for the country.

Responding to concerns raised by opposition leaders, including JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, about the interference of non-political entities in political affairs, Rana Sanaullah reaffirmed that the establishment should adhere strictly to its constitutional role. He acknowledged past perceptions of lengthy agendas within the establishment but maintained that the current leadership’s primary objective is national stability.

When questioned about the absence of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif from media presence and key political developments, Sanaullah dismissed the notion that anything was holding Nawaz back. He emphasized the importance of timing in political decisions, suggesting that Nawaz Sharif strategically chooses when and how to engage politically.

Addressing speculation about potential negotiations and political alignments, Sanaullah clarified that Nawaz Sharif himself nominated his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for the premiership. He diplomatically noted that lawmakers adhere to the Prime Minister in their legislative roles and follow the PML-N President in party matters.

Regarding recent meetings with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Sanaullah denied any secretive negotiations, stating that discussions focused on shared concerns rather than covert alliances. He reiterated the PML-N’s openness to dialogue but criticized the PTI for purportedly avoiding constructive engagement.

In conclusion, Sanaullah’s statements underscored the ongoing political dynamics in Pakistan, where concerns over institutional roles and political alignments continue to shape public discourse amidst efforts towards stability and progress.
