Sudeepa Chatterjee, a host and actress hailing from Bengal, has recently faced a barrage of death threats following the widespread circulation of a video featuring her on a Bangladeshi cooking show where beef was prepared.
The incident unfolded when Chatterjee clarified that during the show, a contestant from Bangladesh cooked a beef dish. Despite not being involved in the cooking or consumption of beef herself, Chatterjee found herself at the center of controversy due to the video’s viral nature on social media.
“I have been falsely accused of cooking and consuming beef on the show,” Chatterjee clarified. “I simply interacted with the contestant who prepared the dish.”
She vehemently denied any personal involvement with beef, stating, “I have never cooked, eaten, or handled beef. Those issuing threats should carefully watch the video and point out where I interacted with beef.”
Chatterjee further explained the context, noting that she was representing India on the Bangladeshi program, which was organized for Eid ul Adha celebrations. Despite her clarifications, the actress expressed frustration over being targeted unfairly.
“Most of the criticism directed towards me seems to be based on misinformation. I am being unfairly attacked, possibly for political reasons,” Chatterjee lamented in a Facebook post.
She emphasized that the videos from the show remain unedited and open for scrutiny, inviting anyone interested to review them. Chatterjee’s ordeal highlights the challenges faced by public figures in navigating sensitive cultural and religious issues in the public eye, often becoming unwitting targets of controversy and backlash.
