Pakistan Restricts Ireland to 106 in T20 World Cup Encounter

In their final game at the T20 World Cup in Florida, Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi showcased his bowling prowess, taking three crucial wickets to restrict Ireland to 106 for nine. Winning the toss, Babar Azam opted to bowl first at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill.

Shaheen Shah Afridi made an immediate impact by claiming two wickets in the very first over, reducing Ireland to a precarious two for two. Mohammad Amir joined the attack shortly after, dismissing Ireland’s captain, Paul Stirling, with just one run on the board. Ireland’s top order struggled immensely, finding themselves reeling at 32 for six at one stage, largely due to Afridi’s brilliance, who finished with three wickets. Amir also contributed with two dismissals.

Despite the early collapse, Gareth Delany provided some resistance with a brisk 31 off 19 balls before falling to Imad Wasim in the 12th over. Wasim proved to be the most effective bowler for Pakistan, picking up three wickets while conceding just eight runs in his four overs.

Ultimately, Ireland could only muster 106 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. With both teams already eliminated from the tournament, Pakistan and Ireland aimed to conclude their campaigns on a positive note in their final fixture of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Florida.

Pakistan made one change to their lineup, bringing in pace bowler Abbas Afridi in place of Naseem Shah. The Pakistan Playing XI included Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saim Ayub, Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Abbas Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Amir. Ireland’s Playing XI featured Andy Balbirnie, Paul Stirling (c), Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little, and Ben White.
