Grammy-winning artist Rihanna has disclosed that she is embarking on a fresh journey with her highly-anticipated upcoming album, known as R9.
Revealing her intention to start afresh, Rihanna explained that she has spent considerable time working on the album and now seeks to approach previously recorded tracks with a renewed perspective while also crafting new music.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Work” singer expressed her view that music is a new discovery for her, as she is rediscovering elements of her craft. She emphasized her desire to revisit her existing work and carefully evaluate its resonance before deciding what to include in the new album.
Acknowledging her decision to “start over,” Rihanna clarified that she does not intend to overlook her previous songs. Instead, she plans to listen to them with fresh ears and a new perspective to determine their relevance and her continued affection for them.
Rihanna’s last studio album, Anti, was released in 2016 and garnered Grammy nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Recording Package.
While fans eagerly anticipate her next release, Rihanna emphasized that she will not rush the creative process, prioritizing her journey of rediscovery.
Addressing rumors of retirement from music sparked by a t-shirt she was seen wearing with the phrase “I’m Retired,” Rihanna clarified that it was intended as a joke. She humorously mentioned that people misinterpreted the message, and she reassured fans that she is still actively engaged in her music career.
Although a specific release date for Rihanna’s next album remains uncertain, the singer hinted in April that she has promising new tracks ready for the world to hear.
