Pakistan’s first woman duo to summit 5750m West Muztagh La

Pakistani trailblazers Ammara Sharif and Dr. Sana Jamil are poised to make history as the first female duo from Pakistan to conquer the daunting West Muztagh La Pass, towering at an impressive altitude of 5750 meters.

Over a challenging 12-day trek, the courageous climbers endured bone-chilling temperatures plummeting to -20 degrees Celsius, navigating through treacherous snowy terrain and harsh weather conditions.

Against all odds, they reached the summit on June 4th at 10 a.m., marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s mountaineering history.

Nestled within the majestic Karakoram range, the Muztagh Pass serves as a gateway to the awe-inspiring Baltoro Muztagh subrange, housing the iconic K2, the world’s second-highest peak.

The arduous journey across the pass, renowned as the shortest route connecting Yarkand to Skardu along the upper Indus River in Baltistan, demands exceptional physical resilience and mental strength.

Sharif and Jamil’s triumphant ascent not only highlights the unwavering spirit of Pakistani women but also underscores their remarkable contribution to the adventure sports arena.

Joining Sharif and Jamil on this historic expedition were their compatriots:

  • Muhammad Abduhu
  • Dr. Raheel Iftikhar
  • Hanzala Sheikh
  • Junaid Roy
