Kangana Ranaut
The resurgence of an old social media post by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, wherein she defended Will Smith’s infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars, has reignited controversy and accusations of hypocrisy.
The post, originally shared in 2022, resurfaced following an incident where Ranaut herself was slapped by a CISF personnel at the Chandigarh airport.
In the backdrop of the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith’s striking of Chris Rock made global headlines after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Ranaut, at the time, publicly supported Smith’s actions, expressing on her Instagram Stories, “If some idiot used my mom or sister’s illness to make a bunch of fools laugh, I would slap him like @willsmith did…badass move.”
However, the tables quickly turned when Ranaut faced a similar situation. She was slapped by CISF officer Kulwinder Kaur over her comments regarding the farmer protests.
In response to Ranaut’s condemnation of those defending the incident, netizens swiftly dug up her past support for Smith’s actions, labeling it a glaring double standard.
Reddit became a platform for airing opinions, with users highlighting the irony of Ranaut’s situation. One user remarked, “Kangana didn’t expect she’d be slapped for something she said.
Hypocrisy at its best,” while another emphasized, “There’s a limit to hypocrisy, that’s why never celebrate something like this.”
The slap incident prompted the suspension of CISF personnel Kulwinder Kaur and the filing of an FIR against her.
Kaur, in a video, defended her actions, citing Ranaut’s derogatory remarks about women farmers as the catalyst. She stated, “Kangana had given a statement that women farmers were sitting at the farmers’ protest for ₹100 each.
My mother was also sitting there when she gave this statement. I could not tolerate the insult of my mother.”
