Former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair Resigns from PML-N

Former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair announced his decision to leave the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday.

Muhammad Zubair cited differences with the party leadership over several key issues, including the handling of the no-confidence move against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the performance of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s government over the past 16 months.

“I conveyed my differences to the party leadership long ago,” Zubair stated. He mentioned that he has not yet decided to join any other political party and will take a decision on this matter in the near future.

Zubair criticized PML-N for straying from its “Vote Ko Izzat Do” (Respect the Vote) slogan, expressing disappointment over the party’s deviation from its original stance.

Earlier, Zubair had remarked that PML-N had shifted away from its original narrative of respecting the vote shortly before the PDM government’s tenure. He highlighted the party’s evolving narrative, from a confrontational approach to one of reconciliation, and now, focusing primarily on economic issues.

Zubair also revealed that PML-N’s leadership had considered going into elections immediately after the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan, with preparations for the dissolution of the assembly already in place under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

His decision to part ways with PML-N underscores the deep-seated disagreements within the party regarding its strategic direction and approach to governance.

His departure from PML-N signifies a significant shift in the political landscape, prompting speculation about potential ramifications for both the party and the broader political dynamics in Pakistan. As Zubair deliberates his next steps, his decision may influence the trajectory of various political alliances and strategies leading up to the upcoming elections, adding a new dimension to the evolving political discourse in the country.
