QUETTA: Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been booked for allegedly delivering anti-state speeches and inciting people against the state.
The charges have been brought against 28 PTI leaders, including Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, MNAs Shehryar Afridi, and Shandana Gulzar. They are accused of sedition, inciting the public, and spreading chaos. The case was registered at the Bostan police station based on a complaint by Levies officer Abdul Ghani.
Several leaders of PTI’s Balochistan chapter have also been named in the FIR, including Sherief Tokhi, Abdul Bari Kakar, Jahangir Rind, Mir Ashfaq, Nawabzada Sharif, Moazzam Buut, Mahwish Janjua, Abdul Bari, Khurshid Ahmed, Rahim Kakar, Ateeq Kakar, among others. The authorities have also ordered the removal of anti-state wall chalking within the police station’s jurisdiction.
The FIR states that PTI members wrote anti-state slogans following a meeting held at Ateeq Khan’s residence. It alleges that all leaders involved made speeches inciting against the state and its institutions, qualifying as acts of sedition, incitement, and spreading disorder.
In a related development, PTI founder Imran Khan has joined the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) investigation into a controversial tweet regarding Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, posted on his official X account.
Last week, the FIA’s anti-cybercrime team launched an investigation into the tweet attributed to the incarcerated Imran Khan. According to sources, an FIA team visited Adiala Jail to interrogate the PTI founder, with party lawyers Chaudhry Zahoor Abbas and Intezar Panjutha present during the questioning. Imran Khan responded to the investigators’ questions regarding the controversial post in the presence of his lawyers.
Additionally, PTI leaders Barrister Gohar and Raoof Hasan appeared before the FIA following a summon related to the same controversial tweet. The police have confirmed that investigations into the accusations against the PTI leaders are underway.
