Sher Afzal Marwat, a lawmaker representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, conveyed his discontent regarding the manner in which party decisions, particularly those concerning him, were communicated.
Despite his removal from key party decision-making bodies and receipt of a show-cause notice, Marwat expressed his sorrow over what he perceived as an inadequate process in which PTI founder Imran Khan announced these decisions.
Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, Marwat clarified that his disappointment lay not with the PTI founder personally, but rather with the absence of a fair hearing before decisions affecting him were made. He emphasized his belief that he deserved a chance to present his perspective and lamented feeling disregarded by the party.
Marwat articulated his readiness to step aside if it was deemed beneficial for him to do so, highlighting his willingness to resign if required. Despite these statements, he disclosed that he had not yet engaged in discussions with the former prime minister, Imran Khan.
These remarks from Marwat emerged subsequent to his expulsion from both the party’s core and political committees on May 9, a move orchestrated by Imran Khan himself. Marwat’s outspoken criticism of the party’s top leadership, coupled with his refusal to operate under their direction, prompted PTI to take decisive action against him.
Subsequently, Marwat received a show-cause notice for violating the party’s code of conduct and policies. The notice cited Marwat’s issuance of “irresponsible statements,” which were deemed detrimental to the party’s reputation and interests, despite clear instructions from Khan.
Furthermore, the notice highlighted Marwat’s actions and words as having strained relations with fellow party members and stakeholders.
Known for his outspoken and controversial remarks, Marwat had clashed with several party leaders, including Taimur Khan Jhagra, Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz.
Addressing the legal cases against Khan, Marwat dismissed them as baseless, attributing their proliferation to the success of opponents. He expressed the belief that when the people mobilize, Khan would be released, placing hope in the nation’s support.
