3 Arrested, 15 Cases Registered as Margalla Hills Faces Wildfire Again

Margalla Hills

In response to multiple incidents of fires raging across the Margalla Hills, authorities have taken decisive action, with three individuals arrested and 15 cases filed.

Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, also serving as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, affirmed this development, emphasizing the commitment to holding those responsible accountable and safeguarding the hills.

The arrests were made by the CDA’s environment wing, which caught the suspects at a point where fires had been previously reported.

These individuals were promptly handed over to Islamabad police. Additionally, increased patrolling has been initiated in the Margalla Hills under the directive of the CDA chairman.

Efforts to combat the fires involved the engagement of over 80 firefighters, with a focus on controlling the blaze at its center after containment efforts from the sides. A helicopter was deployed to aid in the operation, while additional teams joined the firefighting efforts.

Challenges in extinguishing the fires were exacerbated by high-speed winds and hot weather conditions. Despite these difficulties, authorities assured that all available resources were being utilized to bring the situation under control.

The recurring nature of fire incidents in the Margalla Hills has raised suspicions of human involvement, prompting inquiries and the formation of committees to investigate.

The collaborative efforts between various stakeholders, including law enforcement and municipal authorities, underscore the seriousness with which these incidents are being addressed.

Margalla Hills, managed by the CDA and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, have historically faced fire incidents, highlighting the need for enhanced coordination and preventive measures.

The recent fires have drawn significant attention, leading to swift government action and a renewed focus on protecting this ecologically significant area.
