Pakistan has successfully launched its satellite, PAKSAT MM1, into orbit on Thursday from China, aiming to enhance internet quality and connectivity within the country.
The PAKSAT MM1 satellite, developed to meet the increasing communication and connectivity needs of Pakistan, was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in China. This project symbolizes the technological collaboration between China and Pakistan.
PAKSAT MM1, equipped with advanced communication technologies, is set to play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, contributing significantly to the nation’s Digital Pakistan initiative. The launch ceremony was broadcast live for the media from SUPARCO’s establishments in Islamabad and Karachi.
The satellite is anticipated to establish a sophisticated communication network, addressing the growing demands of the telecom sector. Its advanced capabilities will cater to the increasing need for high-speed internet and seamless connectivity.
According to SUPARCO, this high-power multi-mission satellite will offer communication services in the C, Ku, and Ka Bands, along with SBAS services in the L Band. PAKSAT MM1 will be instrumental in providing various communication services, including broadband internet, TV broadcasting, mobile backhauling, and VSAT connectivity.
Dr. Usman Iftikhar, Project Manager of MM-1 at SUPARCO, stated that the primary goal of the PAKSAT MM1 satellite is to fortify Pakistan’s communication infrastructure. This initiative aims to expand connectivity, particularly in underserved areas, and support tele-education, e-health/telemedicine, e-governance, and e-commerce, positioning Pakistan as a digital powerhouse.
He emphasized that a robust communication infrastructure is vital for national development, and this satellite will help extend connectivity to remote regions. PAKSAT MM1, a communication satellite, will be placed in Geostationary Orbit, approximately 36,000 km above the Earth.
Previously, on May 3, Pakistan launched its historic lunar mission, ICUBE-Q, onboard China’s Chang’E6 from Hainan, China. The ICUBE-Qamar mission marks Pakistan’s first lunar exploration effort, representing a significant milestone in the country’s space endeavors.
