Heatwave
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating that a persistent heatwave will continue to affect the plains of the country for the next two days.
This extended period of high temperatures is expected to be accompanied by warm winds during the afternoon hours, exacerbating the already intense heat.
In contrast to the plains, the weather in Gilgit-Baltistan is predicted to be partly cloudy, with a possibility of thunderstorms in the evening and night.
Despite these localized weather variations, the continental air pressure remains strong across most of Pakistan, influencing the overall weather conditions.
According to the PMD report, high air pressure in the upper regions is contributing to the ongoing hot weather, which is anticipated to persist for at least the next two days.
Over the past 24 hours, the country has experienced extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels. In some parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, there were reports of light rain and drizzle, offering a brief respite from the heat.
The PMD recorded some of the highest temperatures in several locations over the past 24 hours. Mohenjodaro topped the list with a scorching 53°C, followed closely by Jacobabad at 52°C.
Dadu experienced 51°C, while Khanpur, Khairpur, Larkana, Padidan, Sukkur, Sibi, and Rohri all recorded 50°C. Other notable temperatures included 49°C in Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kot Adu, and Nawabshah, and 48°C in Multan, Dera Ismail Khan, and Turbat. Skardu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Jhang, Joharabad, Lia, and Noorpur Thal saw temperatures of 47°C.
The extreme heat over the past day highlights the severity of the current weather conditions.
As the heatwave continues, the PMD advises the public to take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak afternoon hours when the temperatures are expected to be the highest.
