Motorways and Highways Toll Tax Increased by Up to 30%

The National Highways Authority has announced a significant increase in toll taxes for vehicles, with rates rising up to 30% on national highways and several motorways. These new rates will take effect from July 1.

The toll increases apply to the National Highways, M-1 (Islamabad–Peshawar Motorway), M-3 (Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway), M-4 (Faisalabad-Multan Motorway), M-5 (Sukkur-Multan Motorway), and M-15 (Hazara Motorway). Notably, no changes have been announced for the M-2 (Lahore-Islamabad Motorway) yet.

For cars traveling on National Highways, the toll tax has risen from Rs30 to Rs40. Similarly, wagons, buses, and other vehicles will also see higher toll charges. Specifically, the toll tax for cars on the entire length of the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1) has increased from Rs240 to Rs350.

On the M-3, the toll tax for cars has been raised from Rs390 to Rs500. For the M-4 Motorway, the toll for cars has gone up from Rs510 to Rs650. Additionally, the toll tax on the M-14 (Islamabad–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway) is now set at Rs550.

These increases reflect the National Highways Authority’s adjustments to toll rates to possibly accommodate rising maintenance costs and infrastructure investments. Motorists using these routes should prepare for the higher expenses starting next month. The new rates are likely to impact regular commuters, commercial transporters, and long-distance travelers who rely on these key road networks for daily transit and business operations.

As these changes come into effect, it will be essential for drivers to plan their travel budgets accordingly. The increased toll revenue is expected to support the upkeep and enhancement of Pakistan’s highway infrastructure, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for all road users in the long run.
