ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani cricketer Saeed Anwar has claimed that the increase in divorce cases in Pakistan is due to the rise of working women.
In a video clip that went viral on social media, he alleged that working women in Pakistan do not want to live with their husbands.
In the one-minute clip, the former cricketer is seen addressing an audience, sharing his views based on his experiences from traveling around the world.
Saeed Anwar claimed that “youngsters were suffering” due to family dynamics changing as women started earning.
Anwar elaborated on his interactions with various players, expressing his belief that cultural disruption is occurring because more women are joining the workforce.
He stated, “In Pakistan, divorce rates have increased by around 30% in three years due to women’s earnings.” He interpreted the mindset of working women as saying, “To hell with you, I can earn and I can look after my household.”
He referred to this situation as a “game plan” and emphasized the need for “hidayat [guidance]” to address the issue.
