ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has confirmed that 69% of Gaza City is now subject to active Israeli displacement orders, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the war-torn region.
Between March 18 and April 14, the Israeli military issued at least 20 new displacement orders, as reported by UNRWA. The agency is currently managing 115 shelters across Gaza, housing more than 90,000 displaced individuals.
Since the breakdown of the ceasefire on March 18, around 420,000 people have been displaced once again, further intensifying the already dire situation.
The health toll continues to rise sharply. The Gaza Health Ministry reported on Sunday that over 51,200 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 117,000 have been injured since Israel began its military offensive in October 2023. In the past 24 hours alone, the latest attacks resulted in at least 44 fatalities and 145 injuries.
Many victims remain trapped under rubble, with rescue efforts hindered by ongoing military activity. Despite a temporary ceasefire and a prisoner exchange agreement in January, Israel resumed its aerial and ground invasion on March 18. Since then, more than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed, and thousands more have been injured.
UNRWA has reiterated the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the unrestricted flow of humanitarian and commercial supplies into Gaza, which have been blocked by Israel since March 2.
Israel’s military actions have drawn international legal scrutiny, with the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing arrest warrants in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes.
