In a major counterterrorism success, four terrorists linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — referred to by officials as Khawarjis — were killed in a joint operation by Hangu Police and Tal Scouts in the Doaba area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district on Saturday.
The intelligence-based operation, which began early morning, targeted TTP hideouts in Zargiri, Shinaori, and nearby villages, aiming to neutralize high-risk militant elements threatening regional stability.
DPO, SHO Injured During Intense Gun Battle
During the encounter, District Police Officer (DPO) Khalid Khan and Station House Officer (SHO) Doaba Nabi Khan sustained injuries. Police confirmed that both officers were shifted to a medical facility and are currently in stable condition.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amjad Khan, the security forces came under heavy fire as they approached the suspected militant locations.
“Four Khawarjis were neutralized in the shootout. The operation is still ongoing, and a full clearance operation is underway,” he said.
TTP Militants Linked to Recent Violence in Region
Law enforcement sources stated that the killed terrorists were involved in recent violent incidents across the region, fueling concerns over a resurgence in TTP activity in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Additional security forces have been deployed to the area to prevent retaliation and secure the perimeter as the clearance operation continues.
The incident highlights the growing counterterrorism efforts in Pakistan’s tribal belt and border areas, where TTP sleeper cells have reportedly become more active in recent months.
