LAKKI MARWAT — Three Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel were martyred in a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district on Monday, officials confirmed.
According to Karak police spokesperson Shaukat Khan, militants first launched a quadcopter attack on the Federal Constabulary fort located in the Dargah Shaheedan area. The assault caused injuries among personnel stationed at the facility.
Karak District Police Officer Saood Khan said that as rescuers transported the injured to a hospital, terrorists ambushed the ambulance. Consequently, three FC personnel embraced martyrdom in the second attack.
Security forces rushed to the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. However, officials have not yet released further details regarding arrests or casualties among the assailants.
The incident follows a series of recent attacks targeting security forces in the province. Last week, militants carried out a suicide attack using an explosive-laden vehicle on a checkpost in Bajaur district, killing 11 security personnel. Earlier, on February 18, unidentified gunmen injured two FC personnel in an attack on a checkpost in the Salgazi area of Wazir subdivision.
In November last year, attackers targeted the FC headquarters in Peshawar’s Saddar area in a suicide bombing that martyred three personnel.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, fatalities in the province increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
The report recorded an absolute rise of 711 deaths, accounting for more than 82 percent of the net national increase and marking nearly a 44 percent year-on-year surge in violence.
