In response to a ceasefire violation, Pakistanโs security forces destroyed three Afghan Taliban posts at the Chaman border on Friday and Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 Taliban soldiers, according to sources.
The incident occurred around midnight when Taliban forces initiated unprovoked small arms fire along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Chaman sector of Balochistan.
Pakistan security forces responded immediately with precise small arms fire targeting the posts from which the attack originated. The engagement continued intermittently for approximately 45 minutes before heavier weapons, including rocket launchers, mortars, and direct-firing arms, were deployed.
The operation resulted in the complete destruction of three Taliban posts while minimizing collateral damage to civilians, according to local sources.
As Taliban forces attempted to use nearby civilian areas for further attacks, Pakistan employed armed swarm drones and additional heavy weapons, causing multiple injuries and more than two dozen confirmed deaths.
Facing significant losses, Taliban forces raised white flags, and Pakistan allowed them to evacuate the dead and injured under surveillance. Damage assessment confirmed at least 23 Taliban fatalities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifโs spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, reiterated that the firing by Afghan forces was unprovoked, emphasizing Pakistanโs commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and citizens. Taliban officials claimed Pakistani shelling in Kandahar province killed five people, including one Taliban member.
Tensions along the Pak-Afghan border escalated after October 12, following attacks by the Taliban and affiliated militants on Pakistan Armed Forces posts. Previous clashes in October resulted in over 200 Taliban casualties and 23 Pakistani soldiers martyred.
Despite ceasefire agreements mediated by Doha and Turkiye, intermittent violations have continued, with Pakistan maintaining readiness to defend its border. The latest engagement demonstrates Pakistanโs resolve to enforce the ceasefire and protect its citizens while addressing ongoing cross-border threats.
