PESHAWAR: A gang that was issuing Afghan citizens fake passports and computerised national identity cards (CNICs) was busted by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) anti-corruption unit.
Twenty suspects were arrested by the FIA anti-corruption circle in Peshawar who were allegedly involved in providing Afghan citizens with CNICs and passports. 36 alleged members of an organised gang were the subject of a case filed under the Foreign Act and Corruption Act.
According to the FIA spokesperson, raids are being carried out to arrest additional suspects.

A foreigner who went to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to get a computerised national identity card was arrested there in January (CNIC).
According to information, the foreigner went to the Jhang NADRA office with a local resident and his mother to apply for a CNIC for the foreigner. The mother and the son identified the foreigner as their respective son and brother.
The NADRA staff discovered the fraud during the identification process and apprehended the fraudsters, who were later turned over to the police.
