ISLAMABAD: The number of terrorists killed in ongoing clearance operations across Balochistan has increased to 197 as security forces continue mop-up actions in Nushki district and other areas, officials said Tuesday. The operations follow a series of coordinated terrorist attacks carried out across the province on Saturday, targeting government installations and security infrastructure.
Operations continue after coordinated attacks
In Nushki, armed attackers assaulted multiple government facilities, including a police station, judicial complex, police lines, the deputy commissionerโs office, and a Frontier Corps camp. They also set several buildings on fire. Subsequently, security forces cleared the town, allowing bazaars to reopen after three days.
However, officials told Dawn that search and clearance operations remain underway in the surrounding mountainous areas.
District police officials said at least four additional terrorists were killed during recent clearance actions. Meanwhile, authorities acknowledged that the Counter Terrorism Department suffered casualties during the weekend attacks, although officials have not confirmed the exact number or identities of those martyred. Elsewhere, reports emerged of attacks in Awaran, but authorities reported no immediate loss of life. Security forces are also conducting operations in Washuk following attacks that included the burning of a police station and a Nadra office.
Tributes and international response
Separately, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Tahir paid tribute to Balochistan police personnel who laid down their lives while countering terrorism. During visits to several police facilities in Quetta, he stressed that lasting peace requires close cooperation between the public and security forces.
He reaffirmed that the police remain fully prepared to counter threats and are enhancing capacity through modern equipment and training.
Meanwhile, China strongly condemned the Balochistan attacks. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing firmly supports Pakistan in combating terrorism and maintaining stability, echoing similar remarks by the Chinese embassy in Islamabad.
Security forces intensify Balochistan operations as toll reaches 197, officials pledge vigilance, public cooperation, and international backing against terrorism.
